By definition, watertight sockets are the combined connectors of plug and socket suited with waterproof performance for providing safety and reliability in electricity and signal connections.
Sockets and plugs are widely industrial terms that have become a daily dependence both in the commercial and residential sectors. Electricity has no role to play unless sockets are there to support its functions.
Industrial watertight sockets are engineered in such a way that it becomes friendly in different environments based on the application of the socket’s need. Its foremost feature is preventing water seepage so that the wires, cables, and cases are safe from shocks and shortages.
Once installed, the sockets become almost permanent in the place and dust and moist are not uncommon! The Watertight Socket ensures security for the entire system.
The Chief Features Of Watertight Sockets
Two Traits deserving mentions are the housing material and its inner parts.
Housing Material: Polypropylene, Polyamide, and Nylon are chiefly used to make the shells of the water-resistant sockets as these materials can withstand the water. Moreover, they are adaptable to – 40℃entrigrade to 90℃entigrade temperatures.
Its Inner Parts: Flameproof PA material is mainly used for making the inner parts. Watertight sockets are even flameproof ones to suit the purpose.
What Is The IP Degree In The Industrial Watertight Socket?
IP44, IP55, and IP66 are the marks printed on the sockets’ shells which are known as Ingress Protection rating, as recommended by International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC).
The sockets protection ratings of 9 categories in total which are used to define the resistance of an electric device to water and dust. Rating levels are different with changes in application environments.
For instance, IP66 has two numbers where 6 as the first number states the dust protection rating while the other 6 states the water-resistant capability.
According to IEC, the dustproof rating is described by 7 categories which are identified from 0 to 6 numbers, while 9 waterproof grades are indicated from numbers 0 to 8. When the dust rating is 6, it means dust and water are blocked from finding its way inside the device as 6 is the highest rating.
The Four Types Of Waterproof Level Are:
- Below IP44: no waterproof
- IP44 – IP66: Splash–proof water
- IP66 and higher: waterproof
- IP68: Buried waterproof
The Operating Principle of Industrial Watertight Sockets
The Watertight Sockets have two working principles based on its design:
i. First, pre–tightening sealing is produced with the help of several sealing rings to get done the Industrial Watertight Socket. Next, with the help of the design, water molecules are prevented from penetrating the socket when the pressure is normal.
ii. The pre-tightened force is not gone even during cold contraction and heat expansion.
The sockets have been named as watertight sockets owing to their sealing principle where a minimum of five sealing rings is used to create a pressured pre–tightened grip. The waterproof trait is ensured for a long time since the sealing does not lose its pre–tightened force. Even if the connector inflates or contracts, the sealing is never hampered. Therefore, these are perfect to suit the usage for LED display, LED street lights and drive power, for Civil purposes. The watertight sockets are widely used in cruise ships, lighthouses and the equipment for industrial, detection and communication purposes.
